and hope it will be a positive learning experience for all of us. The Busy Bear classroom serves 19 children ages 2.9 - to 4 yrs with 2 full-time teachers and 2 part-time teachers. The Busy Bear classroom follows the Department of Education's Mass Curriculum Framework. |
We believe that children learn through play. In the Busy Bear Room, our main focus is on the social and emotional areas of development. Once a child develops a positive image and can socialize with others, their energy can then be focused on other areas of development. A major portion of your child's day is devoted to free play interspersed with activities related to our theme and designed to promote growth and learning. We allow for child-initiated activities to develop problem solving, independence and positive self-awareness. We do also provide group circle times and "process' art throughout the day. Our curriculum is based on a weekly theme and is supported throughout the day through books, games, art and music. |
The goals of the Busy Bear Classroom are...
|
Each child has a cubby for his or her belongings. Occasionally, part time children will share a cubby. Each cubby has a basket on top. This is where you can find artwork to be taken home, notes, newsletters, etc. Please be sure to check it every day. We do not provide day forms in the Busy Bear room, as we feel it is important for your child to verbally share their day with you. However, there is a dry erase board on the door that tells what we did for the day, and right outside our classroom door is our bulletin board. You can find the weekly lesson plan, menu, and Leader of the Day chart on it. If you have any special questions or concerns, the best time to reach us is between 1:30 and 2:30 when the children are resting, or at pick up or drop off. |
Every Friday is "show and tell". Each month in the newsletter, you will receive a list that tells what that Friday's theme is. We prefer to have a theme for show and tell because it encourages the children to share similar experiences and objects. It also ties in the topic from the week. We do not allow toys from home on any other given day. At this age, the children need to be learning to socialize and share. It is very difficult to share toys from home. We have plenty of toys here for your child to play with. However, if your child has a special stuffed animal or blanket that they sleep with, they can bring it for naptime. |
Every child will have the opportunity to be the Leader of the Day. This involves being able to be at the head of the line, sleep in the loft, and put the number on the calendar. On the day that your child is the leader, you will be responsible for providing fruit for the class. By allowing the children to provide the fruit for the class, we are encouraging the child to share a relationship between school and home. Please be sure you provide enough fruit for 19 children. The Leader of the Day schedule is included in the monthly newsletter. |
If your child is not yet "potty trained" when they reach our classroom we will be happy to encourage and assist them. We do not allow pull-ups as a form of potty training. Please be sure when you are ready to start the process with your child that you do not confuse them by going back and forth to diapers. "Potty training" works best when we can form a partnership at home and at school that your child knows will remain consistent. |
