The Firefly Classroom is one of our two Toddler/Preschool classrooms.  Fireflies are children ranging in age from 2 to
just over 3 years of age.  There are nine children in the Firefly classroom with two full-time teachers and one part-time
    teacher.
    More About the Fireflies...
The teachers in this classroom work together to provide a safe, nurturing, fun and creative atmosphere for the children.
This classroom is designed for up to nine children at one time.  Through our planned curriculum, our goal for the children
is to learn many self-help skills, social skills, language, and problem solving.  We also provide them with activities such as
art, dramatic play and story time so that the children will learn and be encouraged from other experiences in their
environment.  Besides the children feeling comfortable with their surroundings, we also want the parents to feel
comfortable with the classroom as well as with his or her child's teachers.  As with all of the GQCCC classrooms, we
have an open door policy for all parents and caregivers.  Through open communication and by working together, your child
will have a positive and consistent learning environment.
    Lunch, Medication, and Allergies...
Lunches are supplied by the Greater Quincy Child Care Center.  Please do not bring in any items that need refrigeration
unless it is medication.  Please inform the teachers if your child is on any medication.  New medication can sometimes
cause side effects.  All medications given by teachers must be accompanied by a doctor's note and be in the prescribed
    container from the pharmacy.
If your child has any food allergies, it is very important that you inform your child's teachers.  It is essential for the
continuation of your child's safety that all teachers be aware of your child's allergies.  Also, if you child cannot have
certain foods because of traditional, ethnic, or religious reasons, please inform your child's teacher.
    Clothing...
The Fireflies like to do a lot of messy art activities.  Throughout the day, the children are involved in many different
activities that include paint, "gak", baking, and playdough.  These are hands on activities with imagination, creativity, and
occasional messes.  So please sent your child in appropriate clothing so he or she can experience these and other
    activities to the fullest!!
It is important that your child always have a complete change of clothes (including socks and underwear) at school at all
times.  Please be sure to check that the clothes are appropriate for the season.
Your child's bedding will be sent home every week to be washed and returned on your child's next day of school.
    Other Important Notes...

Potty Training -  The children in this classroom are not required to be potty trained.  However, when your child does show
signs of readiness (dry diapers, interst in the potty), we will work with you and your child to help this exciting transition go as
    smoothly as possible.

Cubbies and Mailboxes - Parents need to check your mailbox nightly for your child's daily report and any other important
information.  Your child's cubby is a place to keep stuffed animals for nap time ("friendly" toys only, please), and an extra set
of clothing.  Artwork that has been placed in your child's cubby is meant to be taken home.  Your children work very hard on
their artwork throughout the school day!

Telephone Calls to the Classroom - We request that when you call the Center to talk to a teacher, try calling between the
hours of 1 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. unless it is an emergency.  Before or after naptime, telephone calls distract the teachers and
their attention is taken away from the children.
